Your Voice is Power is a national competition for middle and high school students designed to teach the fundamentals of computer science, entrepreneurship, and social justice. Using the EarSketch platform, students get creative to remix songs from Indigenous artists and use what they have learned from the provided course outline.

Intro to Your Voice Is Power

  • Get started today with this 15 minute video tutorial! This lesson will provide a walkthrough of EarSketch, as well as an overview of the Your Voice is Power program and competition. Also included, an additional 1 hour of extra resources.

    The outcome - you will be able to introduce your students to the course material immediately.

Virtual Classroom Visits

  • This informative workshop will explore how to use EarSketch; a free educational application that teaches coding to compose and remix music.

    Over the course of this session, you will learn about the Your Voice Is Power competition and explore the learning resources and community available to support effective classroom implementation: lesson plans, examples, tutorials and activity guides.

    DURATION: 60 minutes session virtually.

    ELIGIBLE GRADES: All middle and high school educators are welcome to sign up.

Student Hackathon

  • The Your Voice is Power Hackathon is an opportunity for students to learn about EarSketch, the creative process, and get hands-on support in a collaborative community environment. Our facilitator will guide students through the EarSketch platform, acquainting them with the tools needed to successfully make music through code.

    The objective is to provide the necessary time to help students create their first song, which can be submitted to the Your Voice is Power contest, if they choose.

    DURATION: 3 hours.

    ELIGIBLE GRADES: All middle and high school classes welcome.
