Celebrate #WorldBookDay with a Makey Makey Book Tasting
"The power of books must be fully harnessed. We must ensure their access so that everyone can take refuge in reading, and by doing so, be able to dream, learn and reflect"
— Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day 2021
Wow - talk about imperative.
As a teacher and long time lover of books, this quote resonates with me, and has me pause to think about students who for one reason or another don’t have access to this powerful, world changing opportunity - reading.
Thanks to this a tweet from @cam_kaljouw - highlighting one of my favourite multi-purpose learning tools, @PlayCraftLearn I realized that #WorldBookDay might be a vehicle to bring books to more students. (p.s. his suggestions for reflection on books in Minecraft are also spot on! 😍)
A while back I made a MakeyMakey project on Book Tasting as a way to introduce books to readers. A snippet of recorded information about a book - just enough to entice readers, linked to an image of the book - or even to the actual book! What a great way to introduce books but also highlight the use of coding in Scratch and physical computing as well. Wins all over the place.
Introduce books with a Makey Makey book tasting!
How to set up a book tasting is all in this Instructable!
Go for it - what a great way to celebrate World Book Day this year. If you don’t have a Makey Makey - dive into Scratch and get a book tasting rolling with just that piece.
Happy #WorldBookDay. I hope to see you sharing your reads on Twitter!
